CARSON, Calif. -- Robbie Keane hit the right post and Landon Donovan had three opportunities inside the Portland box as the Los Angeles Galaxy settled for a 0-0 draw with the Timbers on Wednesday night. Portland (6-1-9) extended its unbeaten streak to 14 matches with its third shutout in the last four. Los Angeles (6-6-3) had given up eight goals in its previous two matches -- losses at New England and Real Salt Lake -- and has struggled while surrendering late, decisive goals all season. "I thought we defended well, for the most part," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "Im not sure Portland had a whole lot of chances tonight. That was good. At the other end of the field, I think their centre backs played well, and (goalkeeper Donovan) Ricketts was going to be difficult to beat. This was going to be a game where we had to jump on any kind of opportunity that we got, and we were half a step off most of the night." Keanes glancing header in the 55th minute, which bounced through the goalmouth and off the right post, was the best scoring chance in a game that featured superb ball movement through midfield by both teams but little effective penetration and scarce opportunities to break the deadlock. Donovan had all of his three chances in the first half, with all coming on through balls from Keane, but Timbers defender Pa-Modou Kah made stops in the box each time -- with sliding tackles to deny the shot in the 41st and 44th minutes. Fellow centre back Andrew Jean-Baptiste made a big stop in the 75th minute, cutting off Gyasi Zardes cross headed for Keane at the left post, and Ricketts made a big stop on Colin Clark in the 77th. The Timbers, who had scored 10 goals in their past five games, accomplished little against an L.A. defence led by A.J. DeLaGarza in the back and supported by Juninhos and Rafael Garcias tenacious work in midfield. Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was rarely challenged and easily stopped a 30-yard first-half blast by Darlington Nagbe, Portlands best opportunity. "It was a defensive game tonight. Both teams defended very well," said Keane, who returned to the Galaxy lineup after missing a couple of games while with Irelands national team. "I dont think both teams had any chances, really. Maybe half-chances. All in all, I think a draw was probably a fair result." Air Jordan Scarpe Saldi . Sulaiman becomes the sixth president of the organization. On Friday, Thierry Henry picked his combined XI from the current Premier League top-four. Arsenals Hector Bellerin, Leicesters Jamie Vardy, Tottenhams Dele Alli and Manchester Citys Sergio Aguero were among the players to make the cut in his team. Now, Soccer Saturday pundit Charlie Nicholas has selected his best XI from players at Arsenal, Leicester, Man City and Tottenham. Heres who made his team... People are obviously going to question Riyad Mahrez, who Im fully behind for player of the year, and Jamie Vardy not being in my selection but Ive picked my side to suit a certain style, and how do I leave out Sergio Aguero? Hes up there with anyone other than Lionel Messi right now. This team is picked on what they can do on their day and, in Danny Drinkwaters case, what he had to suffer last season with no complaints. GOALKEEPER Petr Cech has impressed Charlie Nicholas this season Kasper Schmeichel and Joe Hart are great keepers but its Hugo Lloris who is closest to Petr Cech. Lloris is probably better at playing the sweeper role with his pace and ability to read the situation, but I have to go with the Arsenal man because hes the signing that has kept Arsenal in the title race.DEFENDERS Tottenhams Toby Alderweireld makes Nicholas selection Its a tough one at right-back as I dont think there are any exceptional options, but Ive gone with Kyle Walker because hes an absolute beast of an athlete and has more ability than Hector Bellerin. Pablo Zabaleta should be the player Im picking but he hasnt done anything this season. Then on the left Im going with Christian Fuchs as hes been tremendously consistent for Leicester. He does the basics right every time and, while hes the least ambitious of the options, hes the one Id trust. Charlie predicts Find out what Charlie Nicholas is tipping up at 30/1 for Manchester City v Tottenham here. There are a lot of great optionns at centre-back but I have to go with Toby Alderweireld and Wes Morgan.dddddddddddd Alderweireld has probably been the most consistent defender for me. Hes a solid unit and more. How many times have we seen him play that lovely diagonal to Dele Alli? Then theres Morgan, who is just a muscle unit. He does exactly whats said on the tin and sometimes I just like seeing defenders doing the basics. Laurent Koscielny should be in there but hes just not reached the levels hes capable of.MIDFIELD Danny Drinkwater deserves recognition, says Nicholas My holding midfielder would be Eric Dier. Hes calm on the ball, never in a rush, and can get physical and upset the fluency of the game when he needs to. He will be the most important Spurs player against City on Sunday.Alongside him I want to give Danny Drinkwater the recognition he deserves. He had to suffer on the bench last season and everyone said theyre going to struggle to replace Esteban Cambiasso but his team-work and passing allows other players to do what they do.My more advanced trio starts with Alexis Sanchez on the left. He makes goals and scores goals and defenders hate him because of his movement. In the middle its Mesut Ozil, who is just a superstar of a footballer. Everything is controlled and he really does see a wonderful picture of the game. Then theres Alli. He scored a goal of the class of Dennis Bergkamp and if he doesnt win Young Player of the Year Ill buy all the Soccer Saturday boys a drink. He may be on the right but Id give him license to go wherever he wants.ATTACK Sergio Aguero is among the worlds best, says Nicholas Then up front I have to go with the best striker in the Premier League, Sergio Aguero. It took him a while to get going again after his injury but now hes on form theres no stopping him. You can put pace against him, get physical with him, it doesnt matter. He is just a special, special player.Watch Arsenal v Leicester from 11.30am and Man City v Tottenham from 4pm, live on Sky Sports 1HD on Sunday Also See: Henrys top-four combined XI Title race tactical battles - Redknapp Mersons predictions Souness fears for City, Arsenal ' ' '
